Thro Comforters
- Comforters that are sewn through are better for lightweight comforters.
- A silk comforter is warm and the fibers let moisture pass through easily.
- With silk comforters moisture will pass through and won't get trapped, so when it gets wet simply hang dry for a couple hours or tumble-dry on low.
- A coverlet is a cross between a bedspread and a throw and are designed to cover the top of the bed.
- Goose feathers are softer than duck feathers, so look for a high thread count shell to make sure feathers won't poke through the shell.
- Sewn through comforters can be very good, especially if they are made by quality manufacturers.
- Baffle wall channels are narrow strips of fabric sewn between the top and bottom covers that eliminate cold spots and keeps the down spread evenly throughout the comforter.
- Down feathers have a tendency to push through the outer cover, something silk does not do since it is one continuous strand.
- Because less silk is needed for the same amount of warmth, the thinner silk comforter is able to let more air pass through without compromising warmth.
- Originally from China, silk comforters are now common throughout the world.
- Be sure to completely dry your goose down comforter and if you feel clumps, break them up by hand and put it back in the dryer until the clumps smooth out (throw in a couple of tennis balls to help break up the clumps).
- The tighter weave of high thread count fabrics also acts as a natural "down barrier," keeping any quills from poking through the fabric of a down comforter.
